about

Jenny DeBouzek had played with Gamelan Son of Lion in NYC, and with various gamelan groups in the Bay Area in the early 80s. When we moved to Santa Fe together in 1988, there was no gamelan for her to join, so she started one. She had Barbara Benary of Son of Lion build her some instruments, with gongs and drums made by Suhirjan in Yogyakarta. Gamelan Encantada continues to this day in Albuquerque, dedicated to playing both traditional Javanese music and contemporary music by American composers.

This was my first attempt to write a piece for gamelan. It's not great, but I can still tolerate it.
