Black Spring (1979)

from Loners & Misfits by Steve Peters

/

about

The first piece I ever made that was somewhat satisfying to me. Not great, but I'll stand by it. Interesting to notice how much of what is going on here has carried over into the overall thread of my work since.

Made in the spring of '78 in my bedroom at my parents' house – I would have been 19 then. I had a Cat synthesizer and a Teac 40-4 reel-reel recorder. I hadn't yet figured out that I could plug the synth directly into the deck, so I was running it through an ancient Danelectro guitar amp with a mic on it.

Title lifted from Henry Miller – it fit my mood at the time.
