Lições dos Antepassados (2011) (edit)

from Lingua Franca (2013) by Steve Peters

/

about

Created July 2011 as part of a Binaural artist residency and presented as a 4.1 sound installation in the Capela de Nossa Sra. de Conceição, in the village of Nodar, Portugal. You hear: bells from chapels in the villages of Nodar, Sequeiros, Além do Rio, Ameixiosa, Covas do Monte, Macieira, Rompecilha, and São Martinho das Moitas; the whispered names of ancestors found in those villages' cemeteries; the names of local flora and fauna, spoken in Portuguese and sung in Latin; field recordings gathered in and around the Magaio region of the Gralheira Mountains. This is an extremely edited version of the full 30-minute piece.
