Chamber Music is an ongoing series of site-specific sound works made entirely from a single recording of the empty space in which each version is presented. An hour-long recording of "silence" is made when no people are in the building. That recording is then filtered to extract drones made of the resonant room frequencies, which are used as the only materials in the piece.
I think of these pieces as having as much to do with light as with sound – the way natural light changes and moves through a space, slowly changing the hue of the room throughout the day. They are intended to be heard at low volume, as a kind of sonic tint to the air.
All of the pieces included in this album are short excerpts of much longer works. A CD-R of Chamber Music 4: Filtered Light was released on Dragon's Eye Recordings (now out of print). The other versions are all currently unreleased.
